The village and resort of Torrox comes in two parts; the pretty whitewashed village that is situated approximately 4km inland just east of Malaga, and Torrox Costa, which is located on the coast and is a popular tourist resort. A former Moorish silk-trading outpost, Torrox has been a prosperous village for centuries and today is an achingly pretty collection of bright boxy houses which are clustered around a square and cling tightly to the steep landscape upon which the village sits.
The Torrox Costa area is popular with holidaymakers throughout the summer months thanks to its excellent beach and easy accessibility from Malaga airport. Although a thoroughly modern resort, the site is actually a former Roman settlement, with the remains of a Roman Necropolis still visible in town. With good restaurants, bars, cafes and shopping opportunities, Torrox Costa has something for tourists of all ages.
