Located next to Torremolinos (the two resorts are pretty much connected to one another) and just 19km from Malaga airport, Benalmadena is an extremely popular holiday resort that boasts a wide range of attractions that are suitable for holidaymakers of all ages. This growing resort has taken over the baton from Torremolinos as the destination of choice for package holidaymakers seeking a fun-filled and affordable holiday in the sun. The long and wide beach is flanked by a superb promenade that boasts a large number of restaurants, cafés and bars, and a good number of hotels too, all offering wonderful sea views and uninterrupted access to the beach.
Possibly the most impressive attraction in the resort is the award-winning marina. Innovatively designed to house bars, restaurants, shops, nightclubs and a range of other attractions (including an excellent Sealife centre and crazy golf course), the marina is a popular draw for all tourists throughout the day and night. The nightlife in general in Benalmadena is excellent and among the best found anywhere on the coast, particularly around the ’24-hour square’ where loads of late night bars and clubs keep revelers dancing until the early hours.
Benalmadena is actually divided into three distinct areas; Benalmadena Costa, Benalmadena Pueblo and Arroyo de la Miel. The costa area is the main coastal strip and home to most of the attractions, nightlife and hotels, while the pueblo area is inland and has retained an old-world charm and atmosphere that makes it a great place for a relaxing stroll and lazy lunch. Arroyo de la Miel sits in between and is the resort’s commercial centre, boasting a large number of shops and attractions, including TivoliWorldAmusement Park, which appeals to kids of all ages.
